outside doggy daycare in minneapolisOne thing I have noticed when talking with new customers about our doggy daycare is their surprise when we talk about how nice out outside area is.   Outside we have about 3000 SQFT  of space for dogs to run and play, all made up of recycled sports turf.  The turf we used is from an old sports stadium in Arizona!  We love the turf and we are able to keep it much cleaner than traditional grass (which gets muddy), woodchips (that always smell) and gravel (that flies everywhere when dogs run).  We really did put much thought into what makes an AMAZING outside play area that can hold up to a Minneapolis winter.  Now that the weather is warmer we have also turned out the outside webcam so you can check out all the fun.  We take the dogs outside about every hour and they all love getting the fresh air!  When we were looking for buildings, finding one that could handle a large outside play area was very important to us.  I am so glad that we were able to create such an amazing space!

Have a great day!

Jamie, one of our staff members (of over 2 years) just adopted a new puppy from Metropolitan Mutts!  Today was her first day at doggy daycare and she had so much fun!  She is such a sweet girl that loves attention.  Jamie is still thinking of names, once she comes up with one, we will let you know what it is!

This past weekend our dog hotel was packed with dogs boarding for the holiday weekend!  Everyone had such a great time playing outside (and inside when the weather was bad).

Have a great night!

isabelle outside at doggy daycare

Isabelle really loves playing outside with all of her friends at doggy daycare!

Seriously, the weather keeps messing with us… Maybe one day, it will warm up and we can start playing with the hose and pools outside with all of the dogs.  I predict that by August, it might actually be spring!  OK, I should not be complaining about the weather on our blog, but oh well… Keepin’ it real :)

Even when the weather is shotty, we still take the dogs outside often, but when it is nice, our huge outside area takes on a whole new feel.. It turns more into a doggy water park.

Have a good night.

neddie the corgiA big PPP birthday shout out goes to Neddie, who can often be seen laying in the lobby on her back, or begging for treats (please don’t feed the Neddie).  Neddie belongs to Ellen, who is one of our managers.  Ellen and Neddie worked hard baking homemade treats for all the dogs that came to play today!

Have a good night.

Chloe at doggy daycare in Minneapolis

Chloe at doggy daycare.

People often ask how we can tell the doggy daycare dogs apart so well.  Honestly, it is because we are with them all the time so it is very easy for us and you learn not only how the dog looks, but their personality.  Sometimes we will tell the owner that their dog has a twin, but it was very obvious this morning.  2 dogs that looked alike walked in at the exact same time, and the owners were laughing at how much they looked the same.  Chloe and Shilo walked in and the owners were both laughing at how much they were the same.  As much as we trust ourselves, just to be safe in the play areas, we do put tags on dogs when they look like other dogs so we are always positive we send the correct one home; this happens often with the golden retrievers and labs that can all blend together.

Have a great day!

Leris the doodle getting a bath

Lewis the doodle was one of the dogs that got a bath on Sunday Morning.

OK, I am in a bit of a goofy mood and decided it would be really funny to title this blog post like the one I just put up on the Bubbly Paws page.  Not sure if it is funny to anyone else, but I laughed!

Anyway, this was a big few weeks at Pampered Pooch Playground.  Spring break is always a really busy time for us and it pretty much came to an end this weekend.  One of the benefits of having your dog spend the night in our dog hotel is a free bath after 5 nights and everyone loves getting a fresh dog when they come to pick them up.  I went in early on Saturday and Sunday mornings to help our staff with baths since there were so many dogs going home both days!  I really enjoy doing baths and it was lots of fun!

I have to give a special PPP shout out to our awesome staff.  They handled our spring break craziness and did a wonderful job.  I always say that we have an amazing crew and I am so proud of all of them!  Thanks everyone!

When dogs check in I really enjoy talking to the owners and getting to know everyone that comes to Pampered Pooch Playground. I really do believe that our customers are an extended part of our family. The other day I was talking with Murray, the mini doodle’s parents and they said they drove all the way from St Paul because we had webcams and an iPhone app. I honestly don’t understand why every doggy daycare does not have webcams. I know people that log on at 3am to the luxury suites because they want to check in on their pooch! Anyway, look for some cool new changes to our mobile apps in the next few months.

Have a good weekend!

Bella at dog daycare

Bella had lots of fun playing in the Canine Cove today!

Today the St Louis Park Police Departments SWAT team was practicing in the building across from the daycare.  Our staff and I had fun watching them.  Frost’s mom wanted Frost to go over and help them out.  Frost is a German Shepard and would have done a great job helping!

What else is going on at the PPP???  Lots.. The past 2 Sundays we have been having our construction guy working on projects.  Our main project is adding a new door to the Canine Cove so it is easier to get the dogs outside.  We started using it on Monday and they dogs really love it!  Who would have thought they would be that excited over a new door.  Sometimes construction moves slower at the PPP because we do most of it on Sundays since there are not as many dogs and we can move them into other rooms easier.

Gus the shih tzuYesterday we had an evaluation from Gus the Shih Tzu puppy so he can start to come to doggy daycare.  When I took him back to play with all of his new doggy friends, he was so excited to see them!  When we do evaluations we are always careful to slowly introduce dogs to one another and normally start them with 1 or 2 dogs before letting them enter the room (some daycares just put them in the room right away).  Anyway, Gus had so much fun playing yesterday!

Have a great night.
