Length of time working here: Since October of 2011

Do you have any pets?

I have three American Quarter Horses that I ride and show in the summers- Fransis, Zeke and Randy. I also just got a new Welsh Corgi puppy named Z! (or Topaz, or Turbo, or whatever nickname he gets next!)

What do you do in your spare time?

I’m currently finishing my masters degree in flute performance at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. I graduate on April 26th and I couldn’t be more excited! I hope to eventually get my doctorate and have a flute studio at a college somewhere. When I’m not practicing or playing with the pups at PPP I spend most of my time having fun with friends or my horses. I also love spending time and working on my family’s 300 cow dairy farm in northern Wisconsin!

What is your favorite part about working at PPP?

Growing up on a dairy farm turned me into a real animal person! A few weeks off the farm and not around animals is like the dementor to my Harry Potter. Working at PPP helped me out a lot in this aspect. No matter how crazy the dogs get, it’s so nice to get away from school and hang out with some sweet pups for a while.
I’ve also found some really great friends in some of my coworkers at the Pooch!  We have a lot of fun working together and when it’s been a rough day, I’m always there crackin’ a joke or ten to get everybody laughing again.

Funniest PPP moment:

I’d have to say the funniest PPP moment for me took place just a couple months ago when I was in Waggers on a Monday morning. There weren’t very many dogs there yet, but there were three Frenchies- Benson, Frankie and STEVE. I LOVE making crazy voices and doing silly things to get the Frenchies riled up because they have the most hilarious snorting noises and they get SO CRAZY. So Im standing there trying to get these three as snorty as three frenchies can get and I start saying “Steve” over and over, kind of like this…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFhNJ8ozDBk
And these dogs are just going nuts. All of the sudden, in the midst of all of our carrying on, Keith walks in and is just staring at me with the most terror stricken look on his face. (there also may have been some crazy dance move involved too… I’m not sure)
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life!

doggydatez2Since Pampered Pooch Playground opened we have always tried to stay ahead of technology when so many doggy daycares lag behind.  Part of it is because of my love of technology and how I use it in my personal life.  Today I came across a great article on Mashable about some great smart phone apps that you can put on your phone.  From doggy dating, to your pets records there is something out there.  Click Here to see the article and click through the apps!

Have a good night!

Gustav loved having his picture taken while at doggy daycare!

Gustav loved having his picture taken while at doggy daycare!

Meet Gustav, one of the regular dogs that loves to hang out in the Canine Cove at doggy daycare!  Last week Gustav’s dad signed him up for Poochie Pix, which is a new service we just started.  Trycia will have a mini photo session with your pooch while they are at doggy daycare!  Gustav was our first client and he did awesome!

On a side note, Gustav’s dad showed up to one of our kickball games last summer with some of his homemade beer!  Wow!!  It was amazing!

Have a good night!

You’ve probably seen all the viral Harlem Shake videos that have been going around youtube.  Our personal favorites are the one at Sea World and the Puppy Edition, but we decided to attempt to make our own version of the Harlem Shake video with our doggy daycare dogs!   Check out the Pampered Pooch Playground version below!

Here are the rules to make your own Harlem Shake:

  1. Find the song “Harlem Shake” by Baauer
  2. The number of people don’t matter, but the more the merrier
  3. The video starts with one person and they must be wearing a helmet or mask
  4. Only the person wearing the mask dances for the first 15 seconds, everyone else goes about their business like nothing is happening.
  5. Everyone goes completely nuts-o after the lyric, “…and do the Harlem Shake” and the beat drops. This goes on for another 15 seconds.
  6. Props. Props. Props. Whatever you can grab for the final 15 seconds to make it as ridiculous as possible.
  7. No fancy video editing. The abrupt jump-cut between the two videos is what makes it work.
Hero Mutts with Wiggle Butts

Roxy, Rowdy and Roxy had story time!

Our good friend Amber (AKA Roxy and Rowdy’s mom), just published her first children’s book called Hero Mutts with Wiggle Butts!  Can you guess who the stars of the book are???  Yep! Her dogs Roxy and Rowdy who come to doggy daycare!  The hard copy of the book is not out yet, but you can download the digital copy from iTunes.  Just click here for the link.   The other night I read the book to Ambers Roxy and Rowdy along with our Roxy who was sporting the free cape that comes with the book (get it Hero Mutts).  I am so excited to have famous dogs come to our doggy daycare!

Have a good night!

Furminator treatment minneapolis, mn

Elliott wants to be a professional dog model, and this was her modeling debut!

This might be one of the most common questions we receive from customers, “What is the FURminator?”.   We decided to invite Elliot the Pomeranian to come in for a treatment with Ellen to see what it is all about…. And look at all the hair we saved from getting all over their house!!

The treatment includes a bath, nail trim and brush out with special FURminator deShedding tool.  The Ultra Premium Shampoo and Conditioner formulas have been specially formulated to help eliminate odors, provide relief for pet’s with itchy skin, bring out the natural shine in light and dull color coats, release tangles in long coats or moisturize the skin and coat with frequent bathing. The FURminator deShedding Tool removes the undercoat and loose hair.

The FURminator is perfect for any size dog with any length of hair.  You can make a reservation for the FURminator treatment by clicking here.

cold weather dogWe put together some tips to make sure your pet stays safe with this extreme cold

• Keep your pet inside

• Be sure your pet has enough clean, cool water.

• When walking your pets, make sure to protect their feet with booties. If the paws are cracked Mushers Secret is a good healing cream (booties and cream are both available at Bubbly Paws). My personal favorite are the Ruff wear booties.

• Make sure the short haired dogs wear jackets and sweaters to stay warm. ( Jackets and Sweaters are available at Bubbly Paws)

• Limit your walks to 5 minutes or less.  Dogs paws and noses can get frostbite, just like humans.

• Never leave your pet unattended in a parked car for any period of time.

• Be careful at local dog parks, many have turned into solid ice.

• Make sure your pooch has a warm place to sleep away from drafts from windows and doors.  Be careful around open flames and electric heaters.

If you see an animal outside without shelter or in an unattended car, call Minneapolis Animal Care & Control immediately — in Minneapolis, dial 311 (612-673-3000). If you believe the situation to be life-threatening and the animal is non-responsive, please call 911.
