Chicago weekend

20120521-153449.jpg This weekend Trycia and I went to Chicago to check out the Cubs/White Sox Game. We went to the game with my good friends Judd and Cindy who own a doggy daycare just outside Chciago. We spent about 1/2 the game talking about the businesses. We also decided that it would be a great idea to trade daycares for a few days. Seriously, how much fun would that be? I really do enjoy checking out other daycares. We had a few moments to kill before flying back and we checked out one of the nicer daycares in the Chicago area (you might recall a blog post close to this from the fall). We walked in and everyone was super nice, and the place was well run. The one thing I did not like is the non-stop barking that was taking place. Seriously, I would have gone home with a headache after working for 30 minutes there. It did not stop and the staff did nothing to control it. Crazy!! Maybe you just get accustomed to the loud noise, but I know Roxy would be hiding and shaking in the corner. We did pick up some really good ideas from this place and will be updating a few things in the next month or so.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

PPP 4th Anniversary Week!

Bindi and her "friends". This is a big week for Pampered Pooch Playground.... Because it is our 4th anniversary!  It is so hard to believe that we have been open 4 years and we look back to how everything has changed and we have grown.  I still remember the first day that we were open and we were not sure if anyone would come.  I came into the building at 6:15 (because I was so excited), and kept waiting and waiting.... Finally at 6:45 in walks our first dog, Bindi.  Bindi was so excited to come in and meet everyone.   At that time we only had myself and one employee working. Then 2 more dogs came in... 3 dogs on the first day!  I was so pumped and I knew that PPP would be a huge success!  Bindi still comes to doggy daycare, and is one of Roxy's best friends.  I was going through our customer list and many of our first dogs still continue to come on a regular basis (and I can remember many of the dog's first days).  Now, almost 4 years later, Pampered Pooch Playground is often looked to as an example of how a doggy daycare should be run and lots of daycares have even tried to copy our style and feel (but you can't).

We want to thank everyone for being such a loyal and valued customer.  We really do love all of the dogs that come and are proud to have them as part of our extended family.

Out technical anniversary is on April 20th, but we will be celebrating all week on our Facebook page.  Make sure you check every day to see what you can win!

Again.. Thanks to all of our great customers and employees as we could never have made it 4 years without you!

PPP staff night out

cheesecake night at Muddy Paws in St. Louis ParkEvery few months we try to take our staff out to thank them for their hard work.  This time we took them to Muddy Paws Cheesecake (which is owned by Tami our groomer).  Each person could bring their own ingredients to add to the batter, or you could use some of the items Tami had.  I decided to live on the edge and mix marsh mellow with nerds... Hopefully it turns out well (the cakes are in the oven now and we get them on Tuesday).  We did this same outing last winter and it was a great time and everyone had fun!  I know I always say this, but I really believe that we have the best crew around! Have a great night!

Lazy Sunday at the PPP

Starbuck the St Bernard was boarding in our dog hotel. As many of you know, we are not a big out of state company or a franchise and I personally LOVE being a 100% locally owned family business!  There are so many positives of being small and locally owned!  One of the negatives is that we are smaller and when someone is sick, Trycia and I will pick up that persons shift.  This afternoon I had to go in and help close the daycare!  I really don't mind doing this because I feel like a good business owner needs to be actively involved with the day-to-day operations and not just a name on a paycheck!  All of our overnight guests had so much fun this afternoon :)  One of my favorite part of being a doggy daycare owner is our customers (and I don't mean the 2 legged ones).  Hehe!

Have a good night!
