nap time

What does nap time look like?

Dog daycare naptime - Minneapolis,mnWhen we first opened our doggy daycare, we did a regualr nap time like most places do.  Dogs go in cages for 2 hours, and end up barking most of the time.  This lasted for about a month and we decided that there had to be a better way of doing things.  Now we do a group nap time, where we let the dogs lay down when they are tired.  This has worked great and it creates more of a stress free setting for all the dogs and staff.  We really try to re-invent doggy daycare and become an industry leader.  Very often we get emails from other doggy daycares asking how we do our nap times and if they work. Have a good day!

Shhhh... Dog Daycare Nap Time

Ruff House Nap Time The dogs in the Ruff House play hard and then it seems like the whole room gets tired at one time!  We call this our group nap time.  So many doggy daycares do a caged nap time, when every dog goes in a cage for 2 hours and they call this "nap time".  I can honestly tell you that it not a nap time and most of the dogs end up barking for the 2 hours (we tried this when we opened), and the barking was loud enough to stress me out, and the other dogs.  So we found a way to have these group nap times, and the dogs do great with it!  Resting is also a large part of doggy daycare because you don't want a tired cranky dog when you pick them up, you just want a tired dog!

Have a good weekend!

Group Nap Times

dog daycare nap time in minneapolis, mn I still remember the first week that we opened (almost 4 years ago) and I remember how we tried to do "nap time" like all the other dog daycares in the area did.    We would put all the dogs in cages for 2 hours.  In theory they would lay down and nap, but honestly it does not happen.  We tied it for a month and it was nothing but non-stop barking everyday.  We started thinking and wondering if we can do things different, and guess what... We did!  So we started our group nap times, where the gigs just lay down in the play areas and take a nap.  It is so much less stressful on the dogs and on our staff.  Log onto our webcams around 1pm everyday and you will see what I am talking about.

Starting in January, we are really excited to do some more remodeling (I love to change and update things all the time).  We are all pretty excited about it.  The final details are still being worked out, but once everything is finalized we will give you all the details.

Have a good day!

Fun day in the Canine Cove

dog daycare nap timeToday I was able to hang out in the Canine Cove and really enjoy being in there.  It is very different that the rest of the dog daycare play areas that we have because it is the one room where we can bring out the toys and balls for the dogs.  At one point in time, I had about 6 balls rolling around the room with dogs chasing them.  After they were done chasing the balls, everyone laid down for a nap.. Ember and Lola decided to snuggle up on the couch! Have a great night!

Brother and Sister!

nap time at doggy daycare in Minneapolis, mn Those of you that have been reading our blog and following us on Facebook most likely have seen the pictures of Otis and Sadie napping at doggy daycare.  This time, they have been boarding in our pooch hotel and have to always be together!  Sometimes we will put them in the Canine Cove which is where the smaller dogs go and it is so funny because Otis towers over all the other dogs, but he really loves it in there.  These "naptime" pictures happen all the time, this is how they nap everyday when they get tired.  So cute!

Sorry there have not been lots of blog posts lately, we have been really busy with all of our hotel guests and making sure everything runs smooth during our busiest time of the year.

Have a good night.

Another nap time picture

dog daycare nap timeSince we started doing our "group nap time" many dog daycares have tried to copy it.  The number 1 question we get from everyone is, "what does nap time look like'... Take a look at the picture ;)  Our group naps work so much better and is much less stressful on the dogs than putting them in the cages for daily naps.  Yes, dogs go to daycare to play, but taking a nap is really a large part... Have a good day!

Naptime with Otis and Sadie

Many of you will remember Otis the great dane who comes to doggy daycare every day.  A few weeks ago, Otis got a new pug sister, Sadie and yesterday was her 2nd day at doggy daycare.  At first she was a little shy, but then she really came out of her shell and opened up!  Yesterday, Jamie took a great picture of then napping together!  For the first part of the day, we had them in different play rooms, and when we brought them together for lunch, they got so excited to see each other! Have a good day!

Naiya and Lola

photoThis afternoon at dog daycare we had "snuggle time" on the couch.  It all started when Trycia sat down on the couch and everyone wanted to sit on her lap.  After about 20 minutes Trycia got up and let the dogs have the whole couch.  Then Naiya (Golden Retriever) and Lola (Olde English Bulldog puppy) snuggled up on one side. Are you one of our Facebook friends?  Trycia just added a bunch of pictures.

Have a good night.
