Even Roxy needs doggy daycare!

roxy at the apple store in uptown minneapolis Every morning Trycia asks Roxy of she wants to "go to work"...  Most of the time she gets really excited, but sometimes she decides that she wants to sleep in.  Today was one of the days that Roxy wanted to "sleep in".  After I left the daycare, I stopped at the dog wash and headed home.  We ate dinner and took Roxy on a long walk and she still has TONS of energy!  All night she has been running around the house wanting to play.  It is super cute, but I also know why everyone loves bringing their pooch to doggy daycare.  Roxy does not go in the play areas often, but she gets so tired from greeting everyone in the lobby!  Just thought I would share a cute story!

Have a good night!

Chicago Trip and Daycare Visits

The past 2 days, Trycia and I were in Chicago visiting her family that was in from Poland.  Tuesday afternoon we had about 2 hours to kill and decided to check out some doggy daycares in the area.   I can honestly say that I was not impressed.

The first one that we visited is one of the "premier" dog daycares in Chicago.  We walked in and the lobby was super clean, granite counter tops, and flat panel tv's..  Wow, the lobby looked good!  Then they took us on the tour of the building where we saw one employee sitting and reading a book (to herself, not the dogs) while one dog was eating puke on the floor.  The worst part was that she did not even get up to clean it (we were in there for about 5 minutes).  In their big dog room, it was the same deal.  The guy was sitting watching the dogs and there was a pile of poop on the floor.  Wow!!

Then we walked down the street and visited another place.  There it felt much more like the PPP when we walked in.... Until we talked to the staff.  I asked the guy behind the counter what types of shots they require and he did not even know.  They also told us they don't limit the number of dogs, and you can show up anytime.  The guy behind the desk did say that the owner was out, and he was just covering, but still...Wow!

On the way to the airport we talked lots about what we saw and how we can improve our own daycare!  I am really happy with how we run our business.  We don't have granite counter tops, designer lighting in the lobby or big college degrees behind an executive desk in our office, but we have lots and lots of love for the dogs, our customers and our employees!!  It is important to remember that our daycare is built for our 4 legged customers and we do everything with them in mind (I would rather save the money on granite counter tops and designer lighting and buy better play equipment, dog toys r make things easier for our staff).  This is why we have been working hard on remodeling our grooming area (which will be completed this week).

Maybe we were overly critical, and never told the employees that we owned a doggy daycare in Minneapolis, but I was not impressed by what we saw at these "premier" and "posh" places.  Both of the daycares we visited had more than 1 location and I honestly feel that when you start getting big like that, the quality and care declines... My point was proven 2 times today.

As always, if there is anything we can do to improve please let me know.  We want to be the best dog daycare in Minneapolis.

Roman comes to visit

Roman at doggy daycareThis weekend Trycia's sister was in town with her family and they brought their 2 year old black lab, Roman.  Roman is a regular face at a doggy daycare in Wisconsin, and this weekend he checked out Pampered Pooch Playground.  He had so much fun playing with all of the high energy dogs in the Ruff House.  He gives the PPP 2 paws up!  Roman might be the most ball obcessed lab that I have ever met! Today, we took their family to Bubbly Paws to give roman a bath, and made a super cute video.

Why people need doggy daycare

Roxy and Zoe tired after doggy daycare Our dog Roxy is 5 and people always wonder why she is so mellow.  It is because she is out of the crazy puppy stage, but she can have her moments when she is wild and crazy!  She gets really tired by just hanging out in the lobby at the doggy daycare!  This week we are dog sitting Roxy's niece, who is 8 months old.  Zoe has so much energy and she is always trying to play with Roxy.  Monday, we took her to doggy daycare and it was so nice to have a super tired puppy at night!  I think Roxy really LOVED having a quiet puppy because that meant she got all of the attention.  Wow!  Sometimes I forget how important doggy daycare is for puppies :)

Have a great day!

PPP 4th Anniversary Week!

Bindi and her "friends". This is a big week for Pampered Pooch Playground.... Because it is our 4th anniversary!  It is so hard to believe that we have been open 4 years and we look back to how everything has changed and we have grown.  I still remember the first day that we were open and we were not sure if anyone would come.  I came into the building at 6:15 (because I was so excited), and kept waiting and waiting.... Finally at 6:45 in walks our first dog, Bindi.  Bindi was so excited to come in and meet everyone.   At that time we only had myself and one employee working. Then 2 more dogs came in... 3 dogs on the first day!  I was so pumped and I knew that PPP would be a huge success!  Bindi still comes to doggy daycare, and is one of Roxy's best friends.  I was going through our customer list and many of our first dogs still continue to come on a regular basis (and I can remember many of the dog's first days).  Now, almost 4 years later, Pampered Pooch Playground is often looked to as an example of how a doggy daycare should be run and lots of daycares have even tried to copy our style and feel (but you can't).

We want to thank everyone for being such a loyal and valued customer.  We really do love all of the dogs that come and are proud to have them as part of our extended family.

Out technical anniversary is on April 20th, but we will be celebrating all week on our Facebook page.  Make sure you check every day to see what you can win!

Again.. Thanks to all of our great customers and employees as we could never have made it 4 years without you!

Waffles goes to the Groomer

waffles after getting groomedYesterday, Waffles the doodle was so excited to come to our building, but it is not because of all the dogs at doggy daycare..... It is because she LOVES to get groomed and she really enjoys all the attention she gets!  I have never seen a dog so happy to stand on the grooming table.  Tami our groomer keeps saying that "Waffles is a model grooming dog, and she loves it".  Waffles parents sent us a picture of her snuggled under the covers when she got home last night.   Waffles mom is also the personal trainer we go to, and Waffles was featured in a Bubbly Paws video. Have a great day!

PPP Staff Holiday Party

indoor rock climbing in minneapolis, mn Last night we had our Pampered Pooch Playground holiday party for our staff.  Every year we try to pick something fun to do, and this year we took them indoor rock climbing.  We rented out the entire place and everyone loved it!  Our staff is amazing and they work so hard, this was the least we could do to reward them!

Have a great night.

Indy and new pictures

Indy Indy is one little energetic Yorkie mix  that loves to play in the Canine Cove.  She runs in the front door and we can't take her back to play with the rest of her friends fast enough. Yesterday Trycia was snapping some new pictures.  You can click here to see them.  So many people thing we hire a professional photographer to take the pictures in the photo gallery, but Trycia is just very talented!

Just a quick reminder, we only have about 5 spaces left in our hotel for New Years Eve.  If you need that space, please let us know so your pooch can ring in the new year with us!

Have a good day!

Meet Puddin'

Puddin' Today I spent most of the day organizing and cleaning stuff that our customers never see.  For example we put a new couch in our staff break room.  Out staff work hard and they deserve a great room where they can take it easy for a few minutes. We also installed some new shelving in our food prep area and one of our storage areas.

Today we started a new feature on our Facebook page called Puddin's Pick.  Each week Puddin' (Our new boston terrier model in the lobby) will feature one our collars.  If you purchase the collar Puddin' is wearing, we will take 20% off.

Have a good day!

A long fun day

Ellie the BeagleToday we had our 3rd dog wash at the Galaxy Drive In and raised over $420 for the Minnesota Boxer rescue.  One of our core values of Pampered Pooch Playground is to give back to the local dog community in various ways.  Tonight we had lots of fun washing over 85 dogs! Ellie the beagle is one of the dogs that has been a regular face at the PPP for doggie daycare for the past 2 years and tonight after daycare her mom brought her to the dog wash down the street. Ellie is very well known around the daycare for wearing a different bandanna each time she comes!

Have a great night.
