Meet the Crew - Kaitlin

Name: Kaitlin aka Kaiti Length of time working here: June 2013

Do you have any pets?

I have a Pug named Daisy and a Boston/Pug mix named Deuce!  For Halloween, we dressed up Daisy as a SteamPug (instead of steampunk) :)

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I like to take the dogs for walks with my husband, go camping and canoeing :)

What is your favorite part about working at PPP?

Getting to play with all the dogs and getting to know all their different personalities!

Funniest/Favorite PPP moment:

Any moment that involves Rufus, the chocolate lab.  He's so funny!

What a Fix!

Sadie the pug Yesterday around noon, I was sitting in our office and heard what sounded like a jet engine taking off.  Melissa, one of our managers stopped in the office and heard the same thing, and I started to figure out what it was.  It was the computer that powers the webcams.  We have a backup computer for the high speed cameras, but the slow speed ones had to be shut down.  I shut down the computer for 30 minutes, thinking it was just a fan that needed a break, and when i turned it back on, the same noise happened.  Since it is a Mac computer, I made an appointment at the Apple store in Minneapolis (they are really dog friendly).  They took the computer back and found something to be defective and it will be replaced free of charge!  While it is being worked on, I updated our backup computer so all the cameras (high and low speed) are working, but you might notice just a little slower performance than normal.

A big thanks to the staff of the Apple store for some great service.  While I was waiting for everything to be looked at, I was showing off our iPhone app and they were loving it!

Have a good day!

Brother and Sister!

nap time at doggy daycare in Minneapolis, mn Those of you that have been reading our blog and following us on Facebook most likely have seen the pictures of Otis and Sadie napping at doggy daycare.  This time, they have been boarding in our pooch hotel and have to always be together!  Sometimes we will put them in the Canine Cove which is where the smaller dogs go and it is so funny because Otis towers over all the other dogs, but he really loves it in there.  These "naptime" pictures happen all the time, this is how they nap everyday when they get tired.  So cute!

Sorry there have not been lots of blog posts lately, we have been really busy with all of our hotel guests and making sure everything runs smooth during our busiest time of the year.

Have a good night.

Dog Halloween Safety Tips

Trixie the bumble bee Halloween can be a frightful time for your pooch, and the number of lost dogs greatly increases on Halloween.  Here are a few tips to keep your pooch safe tonight.

1. No tricks, no treats: That bowl of candy is for trick-or-treaters, not for Scruffy and Fluffy. Chocolate in all forms—especially dark or baking chocolate—can be very dangerous for dogs and cats. Candies containing the artificial sweetener xylitol can also cause problems. If you do suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, please call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

2. Popular Halloween plants such as pumpkins and decorative corn are considered to be relatively nontoxic, but they can produce stomach upset in pets who nibble on them.

3. Wires and cords from electric lights and other decorations should be kept out of reach of your pets. If chewed, your pet might suffer cuts or burns, or receive a possibly life-threatening electrical shock.

4. A carved pumpkin certainly is festive, but do exercise caution if you choose to add a candle. Pets can easily knock a lit pumpkin over and cause a fire. Curious kittens especially run the risk of getting burned or singed by candle flames.

5. If you do dress up your pet, make sure the costume isn't annoying or unsafe. It should not constrict the animal's movement or hearing, or impede his ability to breathe, bark or meow. Also, be sure to try on costumes before the big night. If your pet seems distressed, allergic or shows abnormal behavior, consider letting him go au naturale or donning a festive bandana.

6. Take a closer look at your pet’s costume and make sure it does not have small, dangling or easily chewed-off pieces that he could choke on. Also, ill-fitting outfits can get twisted on external objects or your pet, leading to injury.

7. All but the most social dogs and cats should be kept in a separate room away from the front door during peak trick-or-treating hours. Too many strangers can be scary and stressful for pets.

8. When opening the door for trick-or-treaters, take care that your cat or dog doesn't dart outside.

9. IDs, please! Always make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If for any reason your pet escapes and becomes lost, a collar and tags and/or a microchip can be a lifesaver, increaing the chances that he or she will be returned to you

Yappy Hour in Minnetonka, MN

Wow, what a turn out at Yappy Hour at Pairings Food and Wine in Minnetonka, MN.  So many people and it was great to see so many of our customers there. Trixie, the pug is one of the dogs that checks in for boarding in our hotel and she LOVED going to Yappy Hour.  This was her parents first time taking her to a restaurant and Trixie did wonderful!  Modern Life Pets was there snapping pictures of all the dogs, and the pictures will be on their website soon. If you are looking for a cool website that lists all the dog friendly places in the Twin Cities, check out Sidewalk Dog which is run by a good friend of ours. Hope everyone had a wonderful day!

Lebron comes to Minneapolis!

A Big PPP welcome to Lebron the pug who has been spending the night boarding in our pooch hotel. He has been having fun playing with all of his friends in Wagger Way. I was at the PPP yesterday working the afternoon shift and I LOVE the feel of a Sunday at the Pooch!  It is laid back and it is so much fun to watch all the owners come and pick up their dogs.  The dogs are always so happy to see their owners ;)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Naptime with Otis and Sadie

Many of you will remember Otis the great dane who comes to doggy daycare every day.  A few weeks ago, Otis got a new pug sister, Sadie and yesterday was her 2nd day at doggy daycare.  At first she was a little shy, but then she really came out of her shell and opened up!  Yesterday, Jamie took a great picture of then napping together!  For the first part of the day, we had them in different play rooms, and when we brought them together for lunch, they got so excited to see each other! Have a good day!
